Rei and Mirai are sisters who, suddenly, are dragged into a mysterious world known as Purgatory. Rei discovers a hidden power that allows him to fight another world's monsters, but loses control and mistakenly kills his sister Mirai.

With the use of playable characters, Crystar allows players to use the characters and abilities of the characters to the maximum. The main playable characters are:

• Rei, the protagonist of the game who struggles to return life to her sister who was killed by mistake.
• Kokoro, a woman driven by the revenge of a couple and a son who loved her.
• Sen, a young woman fighting in Purgatory in order to do justice.
• Nanana, a Rei-obsessed humanoid Revenant surrounded by a halo of mystery.

Mu &e go between the real world and the lost souls realm as you look for the way to return your deceased sister to life. Meet the Demon-bound inhabitants of the Purgatory and take advantage of their powers to fight the corrupt hordes of the Specters and the Reventants.

Beat your enemies to accumulate Torments, purif &iquires calos and pick up Feelings for battle. It fills the meter of the grimes during the combat in order to summon powerful Guardians and get the win.
